Inspiration: the map used in this wallhanging covers a region of the UK where I have often walked, through rugged and beautiful countryside. Using vintage materials, I aim to give ‘unwanted’ materials a second life. Time: a collection of wallhangings takes 4-6 weeks to create. Each individual piece take 2-4 days, depending on the materials used. This piece took 3-4 days. Materials: the warp is paper yarn combined with cotton, linen and synthetic yarns which are ‘dead-stock’ waste yarns, surplus to textile production. The weft is a vintage Ordnance Survey map (1973) of the ‘White Peak’ area in Derbyshire, UK. Technique: handwoven on an electronic ‘Arm’ loom.

Karameloti one of the most complicated and well known weaving patterns from Greece and especially Karia. This particular exemplar is one of the last blankets made by Vanthoula. It's over 60 years old and in perfect condition. These kind of blankets are not made to wrap around yourself on the couch (because the fabric can be a little stiff). Crystal vase I

This fine shin work basket is made with a lot of patience and love by Dutch master artisan Esmé Hofman. Esme's work is known worldwide and she even won a prestigious award in Japan at the Hokuriku Kogei summit. Esmé made this basket exclusively for LOA, so you can't find it anywhere else. It's perfect for keeping your treasures safe or store your jewellery in. Fine shin work baskets and jewellery have a long interesting history together! It takes about 12 days to make this basket, including the design of the basket, preparing the material and manufacturing the mold. Fine shin work, an extremely labour-intensive technique, is in danger of dying out. But as a contemporary basket maker, Esmé is versatile and likes to experiment with free forms, rather than being bound by functionality. She explored techniques with the need to master the craft and create a high quality object. In this way she hopes to preserve basket weaving for the future. Please note: This is a handmade item. This hand turned bowl is a true showpiece that we are very proud of. It's made by Dutch master artisan Jan Hovens. He told us that this bowl had been in his collection for a long time, but he wasn't ready to sell it because it has such meaning to him personally. He felt like LOA was the right place for this piece to find a new home. This bowl is made out of a large piece of robina wood with the natural edge preserved. The mastery required to process the wood in this way is exceptional. The color, super soft texture and shape of this piece is amazing.
