Made by Veronica Pock
This wall-hanging is created by English master artisan Veronica Pock.
The map used in this wallhanging covers a region of the UK where Veronica has often walked, through rugged and beautiful countryside. By using vintage materials, she aims to give ‘unwanted’ materials a second life.
We especially love her work because of the ancient weaving wisdom it holds. Everything that Veronica creates has a certain peace and serenity about it.
It took up to 4 days to create this wall-hanging. This includes the time to set up the loom, weave the fabric and make up the design.
Veronica believes that textiles have a permanence and meaning in peoples’ lives, carrying memories and traditions. Her woven pieces will speak to people and become a treasured belonging, something to keep and use time and time again, year after year. A thing of beauty and functionality.
A selection of the following materials are used: the warp is paper yarn combined with cotton, linen and synthetic yarns which are ‘dead-stock’ waste yarns, surplus to textile production. The weft is a vintage Ordnance Survey map (1973) of the ‘White Peak’ area in Derbyshire, UK.
Technique: handwoven on an electronic ‘Arm’ loom.
